What Do We Learn from Eve in the Bible

Eve is arguably the most well-known woman from the Bible. We can truly learn a lot from her story. We think of Eve as the woman by whom the fall of man and introduction of sin came to be. But, Eve isn't far from something we would have done. If we truly evaluate our lives, we all have an Eve inside.

Know God's Word

Eve was tempted to eat of a fruit that God specifically forbade her from eating. The enemy came as a serpent and questioned God's word. She misrepresented God's word when she said that God told her not to "touch" the fruit. God didn't say that. He only told he not to eat of it. The serpent went against God's word and told Eve that eating the fruit wouldn't result in severe consequences as God said. The serpent made it seem like eating the fruit would actually be good. The enemy makes sin seem like it's not a big deal. He makes sin seem enticing.

Our first lesson: Know God's Word.

When we have God's word in our hearts, the enemy can't persuade us in another direction because we would be able to recognize the lie the enemy speaks.

Trust in God

When God gives us direction it's not because he wants to imprison us. When He told Eve not to eat the fruit it wasn't because he wanted to limit her. He wanted her to live in abundance. She was allowed to eat of all the fruit from every single tree in the Garden. It was the most abundant garden in existence and she had access to absolutely everything except one. That one would have led her to death and destruction. So, was God trying to hold her back? No, on the contrary, he wanted to ensure she thrived. But, the enemy tempted her with the idea that she would be like God knowing good and evil. In other words, the enemy made her feel that God was holding something back from Eve. She desired certain knowledge and thought it would come from the fruit that God instructed her not to eat. She trusted in the enemy more than she trusted in God and as a result, what God warned her would happen did.

Our second lesson: Trust in God

The enemy will always make sin seem attractive, but fall in love with God's laws because they will lead you to a life of blessings.

God's Will for Us is Better Than Our Will

God desires to prosper us, to bless us, and to save us. You can bet that if you follow the will of God, you will have a better outcome in the end than if you follow the will of the enemy or will of your flesh.

Lesson three: Seek first the kingdom of God

Study God's promises. Learn what He desires of us. Live for Him and you will be at peace and feel joy unlike anything else.
